As well as exploration of many of the more isolated Greek islands, sailing yacht hire here at Sail Puppy affords you the chance to immerse yourself in the highly cultured atmosphere of one of the great ancient cities of the Western world – Athens, which also happens to be a popular embarkation port for many of those hiring a yacht from us.

While November may not quite see the temperature highs recorded for the city at other times of year, the climate is still very hospitable, and presents you with the opportunity to attend any one of more of the following upcoming cultural events.

Music of Manos Hatzidakis, ‘The Era of Melissanthi’

Head to Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) on 4th and 5th November to experience the music and poetry of the late Greek composer Manos Hatzidakis, in a production created in partnership with the celebrated theorist’s son, Giorgos Hatzidakis and the Manos Hatzidakis Archive.

‘The Era of Melissanthi’ is presented by the Greek National Opera, and is a musical autobiography based on the poems that Manos Hatzidakis dedicated to his mother’s memory.

International Poster Exhibition: Hommage to Toulouse-Lautrec

The name of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901) is synonymous with the painter and printmaker’s provocative and modern depictions of Parisian daily life in the late 19th century.

In 2001, a 100th-anniversary exhibition was held in Paris, later touring the world. It has now arrived at Athens’ Benaki Museum, but we would urge you to be quick, as it closes on 12th November. It features the original exhibition’s works by 100 renowned graphic artists from around the world, as well as such additions as five more original posters created by Lautrec, and one by his contemporary, Pierre Bonnard.

Money: Tangible Symbols in Ancient Greece

Have you ever fancied having a closer look at the coinage used in ancient Greece? If so, you simply can’t miss this exhibition displaying extraordinary examples of coins from the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection, taking place at the Museum of Cycladic Art from 2nd November until 15th April 2018.

The coins range in age from the late seventh century BC to Roman times, and show that ancient coins are not merely a medium of financial transaction, also providing important historical information.

St Paul’s Sessions

The innovative live events showcasing some of the world’s most important ambient, experimental and modern classical musicians under the St Paul’s Sessions banner are taking place now at St Paul’s Anglican Church, and continue until 16th December.

Experience the work of prestigious artists like Tim Hecker, Christian Fennesz and William Basinski, in a location that provides exceptional acoustics.

What events do you expect to attend during your trip around Greece and the Greek islands this autumn and winter? Whatever your plans, there’s no need to look to any company other than Sail Puppy for sailing yacht hire in such a culturally fascinating and sophisticated part of the world.
